Evolutio: giving digital life to 120 years of large infrastructures

In an era where history meets technology, the challenge was ambitious: to transform over a century of engineering, construction challenges and social impact into an engaging and accessible digital experience. For the webuild Group, a world pioneer in large infrastructures, Engitel has created Evolutio, the first digital-native museum.

The challenge: turning ingenuity into experience

Evolutio is not a simple archive, but a dynamic "frame" that celebrates Webuild's 120-year history, retracing the evolution of construction techniques and the benefits that gigantic works bring to people and territories. The museum houses hundreds of iconic projects, from African dams such as Kariba to the rescue of the Abu Simbel Temples, from the Highway of the Sun to the subways that today redesign sustainable mobility in cities such as Milan, Paris and Doha.

The narrative concept is divided into several levels:

  • Works and Benefits: In addition to the history of the construction, Evolutio tells the story of those who use the infrastructure.
  • Multimedia content: The itinerary is enriched by unpublished testimonies, vintage photos of masters such as Gugliemo Chiolini and films of directors such as Ermanno Olmi, selected from the vast Webuild archive.
  • Cultural Inspiration: The domino effect of imagination, exploring the influence of works in music, film and art.
  • Piattaforma Viva: A never-ending exhibition that is constantly updated, acting as a modern laboratory for creative development and storytelling of Italian excellence.
  • Edutainment: A section dedicated to young people with simulators and applications to discover construction site trades, the necessary skills and live an immersive experience (for example, following the construction of a bridge or the operation of a "mechanical mole").

The goal was to create a place of discovery, understanding and inspiration that honored human ingenuity as a true common thread.

 

The solution: an integrated digital ecosystem

Engitel was the complete technological and creative partner to shape this vision. We took care of the end-to-end implementation of the entire digital project, ensuring a smooth user experience and efficient content management:

  • Design and User Experience: We took care of the graphics and user interface, translating the majesty of the works into an elegant and intuitive digital visual language.
  • CMS Development and Implementation: The site was developed and implemented using our proprietary CMS Spin&Go, a flexible and high-performance system that allows the webuild team to independently manage the constant updating of content.
  • Infrastructure and Reliability: We provided the hosting and infrastructure, ensuring the stability and speed needed for a high-traffic, multimedia-rich platform.
  • Third-Party Integrations: To make Evolutio the living and immersive platform it is, we managed the complex integrations with:
    • Simulators and Applications: Connection of interactive Edutainment modules for the immersive experience.
    • DAM (Digital Asset Management): Integration with the webuild multimedia archive for the management of historical materials (vintage photos and films).
    • CRM (Customer Relationship Management): Integration for contact management and interaction with users, in particular for educational initiatives.

Thanks to a robust architecture and a design that puts the user at the center, Evolutio today serves as a digital showcase for Italian excellence and as a state-of-the-art educational tool.
