Client's needs:
The most famous Italian portal, owned by Telecom Italia Group, has extended the offer of its content channels over the years. As there were more than 18 Top CMS personalized only for some specific thematic channels until 2004, the company thought to adopt one single publishing instrument that could be useful for the needs of the editorial office. CMS reliability and scalability, imposed by the high number of end users, were the main requirements. In 2007 Virgilio proved again to be the most visited website in Italy, with more than 12 million single users and 200 million pages viewed every month.

Solution
In 2004 Engitel won the software selection announced by Telecom Italia to identify one single CMS. Spin&Go.Net won over all the systems already inside the company (RedDot, Documentum, Broadvision, Vignette, COMA, etc.) thanks to flexibility, scalability and efficiency.
Engitel personalized the Spin&Go.Net platform, by offering the necessary analysis and technical support for the contents porting of the thematic channels from previously used systems.
The top version of Virgilio platform has been enhanced with new specially planned features and then put at client’s disposal for the subsequent Spin&Go.Net releases. The back office usability has been improved, also thanks to the contribution of Virgilio editorial office (150 editors) and the indexing system, with the collaboration of Google Italia technicians. Thanks to this collaboration, Spin&Go.Net allows today to create websites with a specifically optimized code for search engines spiders in general and Google in particular.
Spin&Go.Net has also been used as a hub to integrate and export content flows. The function of programme schedule allows to plan the different publications and to preview what the portal will look like in 1, 2, 3, etc. days, according to the established programming. |
